Training Programs For Airframe Mechanics and Aircraft Maintenance Technicians

The 2-year aviation maintenance curriculum provides training that enables the students to develop operative skills that meet the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration. Upon completing the General, Airframe and Power Plant curricula, the student is prepared to take the FAA examinations. After passing these tests the student will be certified as an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic.

Apprenticeship and Extension Courses

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) offers affordable apprenticeship training at seven locations statewide, with online and in-person classes available. Courses are open to both registered apprentices and extension students who want to earn credit toward a future apprenticeship or build new skills. All coursework is state-approved and aligned with licensing requirements through the Connecticut Departments of Labor and Consumer Protection.

Full-Time Day Programs at Bristol Technical Education Center

Adult students who have graduated high school can study in one of seven technical full-time day programs offered at the Bristol Technical Education Center in Bristol, CT. Programs offered include:

  • Automotive Technology
  • Culinary Arts
  • Health Technology
  • Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
  • Precision Machining Technology
  • Robotics and Automation
  • Welding and Metal Fabrication

Notice for Veterans

In accordance with Title 38 US Code 3679 subsection (e), this school adopts the following additional provisions for any students using U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® (Ch. 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Ch. 31) benefits, while payment to the institution is pending from the VA. This school will not:

  • Prevent the student’s enrollment.
  • Assess a late penalty fee.
  • Require the student to secure alternative or additional funding.
  • Deny their access to any resources, such as access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, available to other students who have satisfied their tuition and fee bills to the institution.

However, to qualify for this provision, such students may be required to:

  • Provide Chapter 33 Certificate of Eligibility, or its equivalent, or for Chapter 31, VA VR&E’s contract with the school on VA Form 28-1905 by the first day of class.

Adult Education Tuition and Fees Refund

  • If order to officially withdraw from an adult education program and be considered for a tuition refund, candidates must complete and submit to the school‘s counseling office, the following two documents, which can be requested in writing or in person from Bristol Technical Education Center.

    1. Student Withdrawal Form

    2. Request for Tuition Refund Form (Appendix IX)

    Upon approval of the Student Withdrawal Form by a school administrator (principal or assistant principal), students may be eligible for a tuition refund.

    • Except for withdrawal due to military action or serious illness, if the Student Withdrawal Form is received from the student prior to the first scheduled class session, the student is eligible for a 100% tuition refund.
    • Except for withdrawal due to military action or serious illness, If the Student Withdrawal Form is received from the student after the first scheduled class session, but prior to the fourteenth (14th) calendar day from the first scheduled class session, the student is eligible for a 60% tuition refund.
    • Except for withdrawal due to military action of serious illness, if a Student Withdrawal Form is received after the fourteenth (14th) calendar day from the first scheduled class session, the student is not eligible for a tuition refund.
    • All requests for tuition refunds due to military action and supported by written documentation from the military are eligible for 100% tuition reimbursement;
    • All requests for tuition refunds due to serious illness and supported by written documentation from a medical professional are also eligible for 100% tuition reimbursement

  • If the student meets the eligibility requirements for a tuition refund, the Request for Tuition Refund Form (Appendix IX) completed by the student will be forwarded from the school administrator to the school’s business office and then to the State Department of Education’s (DOE) Payments Unit.

    The SDE Payments Unit will then issue a state invoice utilizing the State of Connecticut’s official accounting system (CORE-CT) and transmits the invoice to the State Comptroller for issuance of a refund check payable to the student within the state’s payment timelines (currently net 45 days).
